I like using Yours.org to get paid for my content. I'm also sometimes conflicted about how much of a given article I should put behind the paywall. I know I'll make more money if I give just enough free content to get someone interested, and then put the rest in the paid section. At the same time, I realize that any part of my article that sits behind a paywall will reach a smaller audience than it would otherwise. One could argue that that's simply a line one has to toe on Yours.org, but I think that there is potential for a feature that helps authors get paid more and also allows that author's articles to reach the wider non-paying audience.
That feature is the ability to set a payment threshold, after which having been reached for a given article, all of the paid content in that article would be released to the public. (That is to say, the paywall would disappear once the author has made a specified amount of money from the article.) Given such a feature, payees would not only be paying to see the paid section of the content; they'd be adding to an effective "bounty" on the article's release to the public. If a purchaser likes an article enough after paying for it that they are invested in making sure as many people can read it as possible, then they may even be willing to pay more just to get it closer to reaching the threshold set by the author. (Of course, if the author sets what the reader considers and unreasonably high payment threshold, the reader may be dissuaded from contributing further, allowing for an interesting dynamic to emerge between article prices and payment thresholds.)
The only "downside" I can imagine to such a system is complaints from early purchasers that other people are getting something for free that they paid for. And to that, I say, WHO CARES? If someone is really not comfortable with the idea that the money they're spending isn't only going to benefit themselves, then I would argue the issue is not with the system, but with themselves. And of course, such a feature would be optional for an author who didn't want to set a payment threshold for automatic release of their paid section.
Behind the paywall is a picture of my dog Jet looking derpy on a rock by a stream. But if I earn 3 dollars from this article, I'll move it up into the free section! ;-)
EDIT: Here he is! =)

@Ryan, that's fantastic to hear! I'm very excited about Yours.org in general, and now all the more. Thank you for the tip, I'll put Jet up in the free section now =)

I have a combo idea:
Have an amount to pay to see the content yourself, and then there's an additional amount you can do that makes it accessible to everyone.
$0.50 for you to see, $50 for Everyone to see.

From the looks of it, that would just be a non-crowd-funded version of this idea. The benefit of the crowd-funded version, though, is that no one person has to fork over the lump sum of money that the author wants before making the article public. Thanks for your thoughts!
