The Top 5 Features I Hope to See Added to Yours
It is exciting to join a platform in its infancy.
I always hear about friends who have gotten in on content creation platforms soon after their launch. They see the entire evolution and they can have all the fun bragging rights of “I joined this before it was cool”. Not gonna lie, I’ve always been a little bit jealous. Sure, call me a hipster wannabe. I won’t take offense.
So, here I am on Yours. I inadvertently stumbled into this platform thanks to Isaac Morehouse, a kindly donated dollar, and a challenge he made to the Praxis community. I’ve been told by a number of acquaintances that this platform is in “beta beta”. I believe it. It’s definitely still a little clunky. But I also believe in it enough to stick around. I think Yours is going to go big, and I’m excited to be a part of it!
I am confident Yours will continue to improve. Here are the top 5 improvements that I hope to see:
1.) A search bar
Being able to do keyword searches for specific content and users would make it easier and more efficient to access content that matters to me. This would enable me to spend less time scrolling and more time tipping creators!
2.) The option to “follow” creators
I appreciate that the main page features posts from everyone. That is an awesome way to enable everyone to have a fair chance at getting seen! There are certain creators who I enjoy reading from more than others, however. It would be great to have a tab where I could scroll through the latest posts from my favorite users. Similarly, it would be neat to see a list of users that my favorites follow displayed on their profiles.
3.) Post tags
The ability to tag posts in addition to posting to the specific branches of Yours would open it up for more specialized browsing.
4.) The ability to upload photos directly into your posts
Having to upload pictures to a separate host site and then copy links over is really time consuming. I would love to feature images in my posts more often and a direct upload button would make that possible.
5.) A “save as draft” option
Currently I write all of my posts on Google Docs and transfer them over. I don’t really mind, but it would be cool if I could save and schedule drafts like I do on other major blogging platforms.
That said, my experience with Yours so far has been great!
This platform is brilliant. I like the way the “pay to play” style makes me think harder about what I write and read. I like the way everyone gets a fair chance at being front-page featured. I like that it gives an easy and direct way to monetize my content. I like that it allows me to get an accurate feel for what my readers enjoy.
If I was a techie, I would hop on your team in an instant and begin crafting the improvements I mentioned.
I, unfortunately, am not a brilliant coder. But guess what? I am connected with an amazing community of young professionals of all talents. If any of you visionaries behind Yours are reading this and want someone to craft some new features for your site, hit me up. I’ll gladly reach out to my crew to see if anyone is up for the challenge and put you in contact!
